Best things, as the saying goes, can come in small packages. Case in point: the 2014 Buick Verano. This compact sedan has many of the features expected in larger luxury vehicles just without the size.
The Buick Verano debuted at the 2011 Detroit Auto Show before going on sale later that year as a 2012 model. Updates for the 2014 model year include standard heated front seats on most models as well as the availability of forward-collision and lane-departure warning systems.
The Verano is served up in four tasty trim levels: the base model, the Convenience Group, the Leather Group and the Verano Premium. Safety bits found on each include ten standard airbags, daytime running lights, anti-lock disc brakes, stability and traction controls, and a rearview camera system. General Motors’ OnStar Turn-by-Turn Navigation is also standard. This unit comes with the RemoteLink app, which allows users to use their smartphone to start the Verano remotely and locks its doors. The app will even let owners know if the sedan’s low on gas. Sweet, eh?
Most Veranos are powered by a 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine mated to a six-speed automatic transmission. Output from this setup is rated 180 horsepower and 171 lb.-ft. of torque with the EPA giving it 21 mpg in the city, 32 mpg on the highway and 25 mpg in combined driving. The Verano Turbo’s 2.0-liter turbocharged four pumps out 250 horsepower and 260 lb.-ft. of torque. Yet mpg figures only drop a digit or two with either the six-speed automatic or six-speed manual. The Car Connection had this to say about the 2014 Buick Verano : “… the Verano is accommodating enough for most daily drivers, and its responsive electric power steering and well-sorted independent suspension pair well with its smooth four-cylinder engine. With turbocharging, it’s truly quick….” Edmunds agrees and says the Verano provides “a supple, comfortable ride over almost any road surface.”
Other notable features of the Verano include luxury items like ambient lighting and dual-zone automatic climate control as standard. The interior is also very quiet thanks to the QuietTuning system. Schedule a test drive of the 2014 Buick Verano at your local Buick dealership to see why it should be at the top of your luxury car list.
